Discovering Science Shepherd: A Homeschool Mom’s Guide to an Effortless and Biblical Science Curriculum

As a homeschool mom, finding the right curriculum can be a challenge. But I have finally found one that I absolutely love and I’m excited to share it with other homeschooling families. The curriculum is called Science Shepherd and it is a video-based program that provides a biblical perspective on science topics.

One of the things I love about this program is that it offers two levels of workbooks, one for older children and one for younger children. This makes it easy for siblings of different ages to study together and retain the information they learn from the videos. The videos are brief, usually two to five minutes long, and the accompanying worksheets help reinforce what they have learned.

Another great feature of Science Shepherd is that the activities included in the program are simple and use items that are readily available in the home.

The videos demonstrate how to complete the activities, making it easy for parents to help their children without having to decipher complicated instructions. This has been a huge relief for me as a busy homeschool mom, as I no longer have to worry about teaching science.

I chose Science Shepherd for two main reasons. First, I wanted a science curriculum that had a biblical perspective, as I don’t want my children to be exposed to theories taught as facts in public school. Second, I was looking for a way to lighten my homeschooling workload after having my fourth child. The video-based format of Science Shepherd allows me to free up time to work with another child while still providing a quality education for my other children.

The program covers a range of topics, including earth science, life science, astronomy, human anatomy, ecology, and physical science. There are 35 weeks in the program, each with a short video and accompanying workbook. The workbook includes questions to help reinforce what the child has learned.

Science Shepherd has been a great find for me as a homeschool mom. It provides a biblical perspective on science, is easy for parents to use, and offers a cost-effective solution for families with multiple children. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a homeschool science curriculum that is both educational and enjoyable for both children and parents!

(00:00) we finally found a homeschool science curriculum that I love my kids love it it’s easy on me and I’m excited to share it with you today [Music] if you’re new here my name is Sarah and the purpose of this channel is to empower other homeschool moms to have the confidence tools and encouragement to homeschool your children well and know you’re doing a great job so if this sounds like a place that you want to be go ahead and hit that subscribe button below and join us here every week alright let’s jump in the curriculum
(00:32) from science Shepard this is the program that my eight and six-year-old are doing this year introductory science what I love so much about this program is that for their different topics they have two sets of levels of workbooks that you could choose from so one is for older kids one’s for younger kids and it varies depending on the subject matter so for this one I have level a for my six-year-old and level B for my eight-year-old and they have similar questions there’s just less of them in the workbook that’s for younger kids so
(01:01) they can sit together and they can watch the same video together and do the worksheets together and the activities that are in here and I don’t have to teach any of it that’s the greatest part it is a video based program so it’s online and they watch a pretty brief video it’s usually two to five minutes each class and then they fill out their worksheet to help you know retain the information that they learned and every couple of lessons they’ll have an activity which of course as a parent you
(01:30) could choose to do or not but what’s really cool is they usually use things that you already have at home so it’s not this huge Mondo science project they make the activities pretty simple and easier on the parents but still really great activities that help reinforce what they’re learning and make it interesting and fun and they show you in the videos how to do that activity so it’s not like you’re having to sit there and read these complicated instructions and try to figure it out with your kids
(01:59) like the kids just watch the activity be done and now they kind of know what’s going on and you know I can sit there and watch that with them and be able to help them with it way easier than having to read through some instructions so I really like that so I’ll tell you my two biggest reasons why I even chose to try science Shepard number one their science curriculum had to be from a Biblical perspective I mean that’s like the whole point of not sending them to public school right as I don’t want them
(02:25) getting fed all these other things that are really just Theory but in public school they teach them as facts you know what I’m saying and that really totally go against the Bible I wanted it to be from a Biblical perspective and that’s what this program is number two what led me to science Shepherds specifically is a couple years ago when I had baby number four I was overwhelmed this is a little and I was trying to figure out how to lighten the load of homeschooling multiple ages and started to look online
(02:55) for different types of video curriculums and came across science Shepherd and I was like that is so amazing they can watch a video which frees me up to work with another child and the video is going to be better done than what I could pull off and what I could do for them to be honest without like taking a lot of time on me to prep things for them I felt like that was a win-win-win like all around big wins it has just been such a relief to be able to take teaching science off of my plate it’s been very very nice to have that and
(03:30) then money saving wise I basically bought one kit where they have access to the videos and get a workbook for my older child and then all I had to do was buy the other workbook at the younger kids level for my other child not like sign up for another set of videos you know what I’m saying and that way that does save me money so I like that a lot so I want to show you guys what the whole program looks like like what do the videos look like what does the workbook look like so I want to do a flip through of the book for you my
(03:59) eight and six-year-old are doing introductory science through science wrapper this year so we’ve got workbook level B and workbook level a so level a is recommended for ages six through nine and level B is recommended for ages 8 through 11. and the package also includes an answer key oh thank goodness so let’s open this up and take a look at the table of contents so you can see the different topics that are covered in this program so they start off with some science skills and tools and then they move into Earth Science talking about
(04:29) meteorology geology and oceanography and then we move into life science and talk about plants and then astronomy and underwater creatures flying creatures land creatures human beings talk about the different systems it goes through our skeletal system muscular system all the different systems about how to be healthy and then it goes into ecology and natural resources and then it gets into some physical science we start to talk about matter and energy and motion and magnets so there are 35 weeks in this program let’s look at week one
(05:08) okay each lesson has a short video to go with it even though this is a science class we’re going to start with the Bible Psalms 92 15 says to declare that the Lord is upright he is my dinosaur fossil a living thing or a drop of water scientists always want to know where that thing came from after they watched the video they come to the workbook and they fill out the answers to help reinforce what they just learned and their lesson what I love so much about this program is that two of my kids can sit and watch the same video together
(05:42) and then they have a workbook that is tailored to their age group so this is workbook level B for my eight-year-old and to compare this is what the same worksheet looks like in level a so she has five questions and he only has three so what I have them do is sit together and they watch the lesson together and then she actually helps him go through these questions together and then I look over all of it with them when they’re done so here’s day two and level B and day two and level a so four questions
(06:15) and only two if you flip over the page they both have the same activity that they can do together they don’t have an activity for every lesson but typically they include things that you already have at home and are pretty simple so this one for instance says get out your clay make a model of your favorite animal tell your mom and dad why it’s your favorite animal and remember when God made that animal he knew that it would be your favorite Isn’t that cool all right all right so let’s keep looking through workbook level a so they
(06:42) have a lot of different types of questions and activities in these books so for instance over here they have matching one day they have where you have to write down the answer or Circle one of the answers that they have listed here some days they’ll have a word search some days they’ll have activity where you draw something or a crossword puzzle so I really like that it has a bunch of different types of questions okay and we can look at those same worksheets and workbook level a so everything’s just a little bit less
(07:26) right each page has less questions the word search has less letters less words that they have to find so it’s just a little easier on a younger level the curriculum is set up in 35 weeks within those weeks you’ve got five days five two to three minute videos to watch and five worksheets to fill out so what we normally do is science two days a week and we have them watch two lessons per day since they are so short which then takes us a little bit longer than 35 weeks but we like doing that schedule so now that you’ve
(07:59) seen the workbook let’s go back to the answer key so you can see a little bit better how this works so they list out day one and each of the question numbers and the answers here they even have the answers to the word searches and the answers to the crossword puzzles if they have to label something they’ll show you the answers to that so I really like the answer key making checking their work way faster and easier I hope you enjoyed seeing what science Shepard looks like I can’t say enough good things about this program and how it has
(08:31) relieved me so much and made our homeschooling days that much easier that much less overwhelming for me as the mom and teacher so if that is something that you are needing in your home school then I hope this can be a great solution to you I’d love to hear what you’re currently using for science if you want to drop a comment below let me know if you’re new here I have four kids that are 10 8 6 and 4 and this channel is all about homeschooling and life is a family of six so if that interests you go ahead
(09:01) and hit that subscribe button below we’d love to have you be part of this homeschooling Community we need each other right we need moms to support each other in this homeschooling Journey because it can get difficult right it can get difficult and it just makes it so much more encouraging when we have each other to rely on and share things with bounce ideas off of each other and ask questions to all that kind of good stuff so I’d love to have you join this community here if this video was helpful to you please give it a thumbs up that
(09:30) helps the video get shared to more and more moms and I super appreciate it easy way to support my channel I’ll leave a link below to the science Shepard program if you want to go check it out for yourself this is part two of a series on science Shepard so last week I shared about the astronomy course that my oldest son was doing and loved so if you want to see that if you have a kid that’s between the ages of I think like eight and twelve go and check that out I’ll leave a link to that video below as
