The Minute to Win It games
The first three games are Minute to Win It games from birthdaypartyideasforkids.com. All you need is a timer set for one minute.
1. Candy corn toss
Play in pairs. Give one child an empty cup and the other a cup of candy corn, and have them stand five feet apart.
- The child with the candy corn tries to toss pieces into the other child’s cup.
- When the minute’s up, count how many they caught.
- Switch roles and go again.
For older kids, have them stand further apart. Honestly, though, candy corn was harder to toss than I thought it would be.
2. Candy corn straw game
Give each child a straw, a plate, and a cup with several pieces of candy corn. They use the straw to suck up a piece of candy corn and drop it on their plate. Whoever has the most on their plate after one minute wins. Candy corn is pretty heavy, which made this one a real challenge.
3. Balloon and straw game
Give each child a straw and a blown-up orange balloon. They have to keep the balloon in the air for one minute using only the straw, no other body parts.
4. Pumpkin nose race
You’ll need a little fake pumpkin.
Line two kids up at a time. They can only use their nose to roll or push the pumpkin from the starting line to the halfway point and back. Remember, only your nose!
5. Charades
This is a crowd favorite at our house. I like charades cards with pictures on them, so my non-reader can still join in.
Snack: candy corn pretzel hugs
After the games, we used our leftover candy corn for candy corn pretzel hugs from Sally’s Baking Addiction. I love recipes the kids can help with that are stress-free and easy to manage, and this is definitely one they can totally do.
- Place a Hershey’s Hug on each pretzel.
- Bake at 250 degrees for 4 minutes, until melty.
- Press a piece of candy corn on top.
- Pop them in the fridge to cool faster.
Fair warning: they’re pretty addicting.
Craft: mess-free cup decorating
We grabbed silly face stickers with eyes, noses, mouths, mustaches and more, and let the kids go to town decorating their cups. It’s kind of like a mess-free pumpkin decorating party. You can also just let them decorate cups with markers.
How to throw a fall party at home
You can have a party with just your family, or invite another family over to play together. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. Dollar Tree makes ballin’ on a budget totally doable, and you really only need a few things to make your house feel festive:
- A tablecloth
- Balloons
- Cups and paper plates
- A bag of candy corn (ours was a dollar)
- Little plastic pumpkins
Remember class parties back in school? No schoolwork, games with friends, a craft and treats. As homeschool moms, it’s up to us to create that experience for our kids, and these simple games make it easy.
Key takeaways
- Minute to Win It games only need a timer, candy corn, straws, cups and balloons.
- Adjust the difficulty by having older kids stand farther apart.
- Picture charades cards let non-readers play too.
- Candy corn pretzel hugs are an easy snack kids can make.
- A few Dollar Tree basics make a home party feel festive.

But honestly the Candy Corn was actually harder than I thought it would be give each child a straw a plate and several pieces of candy corn in a cup set your timer for 1 minute they have to use the straw to suck up a piece of candy corn and drop it on their plate the child who gets the most pieces of candy corn on their plate in 1 minute wins candy corn is actually pretty heavy and made this pretty challenging give each child a straw
And a blown up orange balloon they must only use the straw to keep the balloon in the air for 1 minute they can't use any other body parts for this game you'll need a little fake pumpkin I found these little plastic ones at Target it came in a pack of eight for only $3 not too bad and they actually open up kind of like a little Easter egg line two kids up at a time tell them they can only use their nose to roll or push the pumpkin along the floor from the starting line to the halfway point
And then back again remember only use your nose are you a kitty cat black what is it a wolf find not in here someone who eats someone no this is a crowd favorite at our house I like to use charades cards that have pictures on them so that my non-reader can still join in after we played our games we used our candy corn to make a super cute fall themed snack they're they're called candy corn pretzel hugs and they're from Sally's Baking Addiction blog if you've not been to her blog before it's amazing I love finding recipes that the kids can help me with that don't make me want to like pull my hair out right that are just stressfree
And easy to manage and this is definitely one that they can totally do you just place the hug on the pretzel bake at 250 for 4 minutes so it gets melty and then place the candy corn on top and you can stick it in the fridge after that to get them cooled faster they are pretty addicting we grabbed some silly face stickers that had eyes and noses and mouths and mustaches and things like that and just let the kids go to town they could pick whatever combination they wanted
And put those on their cup kind of like a mess-free pumpkin decorating party can I get a Amon and you can even just use markers and let them decorate their cup who loves a holiday party well who says just because you're homeschooled or having to do Virtual School at home means you have to miss out you can have a party too with just your family or you can invite another family over and play these games together it doesn't have to be anything extravagant Dollar Tree makes Ballin on a budget totally doable you really only need a few things to make your house feel festive
So we usually pick up um a tablecloth some balloons cups and paper plates and then I grabbed a bag of candy corn for a dollar and then the pumpkins that I got are from Target they're in a pack of eight for $3 not bad talking about having class parties at home leads me to my big announcement in case you missed it in my Christmas to-do list video last month when I did talk about it I wanted to share it in this video as well but do y'all remember having class parties back in school they were always the best days no schoolwork playing games with your friends maybe doing a craft
And having some treats it was just so fun well if you're a homeschooling mom like me then it's up to us to create that experience for our kids right and if you're also like me and tend to get on Pinterest and pin a bunch of stuff and then never do any of it tell me I'm not alone you know how often do we feel like going and Gathering all the materials necess Neary I used to so often have these thoughts in my head of how we would celebrate the holidays
And it would be so fun and then life gets busy and the holiday would end up passing Us by with not much fanfare
I hope you have so much fun trying out these fall themed games and recipe and craft if you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up and if you're new here my name is Sarah and I have four kids and we are a homeschooling family so I like to talk a lot about homeschooling and life as a family of six
