Why do they make history books So boring?

Factoids, memorize, repeat

The books from back in school seemed to only teach factoids: names of people, places and dates. Teachers just wanted us to memorize them, spit them out on a test and be done with it.

No wonder most of us don’t remember much of it, and could really care less.

What I want for my kids

I want history in our homeschool to be something my kids actually remember and care about, not a list of facts to cram. If you feel the same, the posts below show the other history options we’ve reviewed.

Key takeaways

  • Old-school history books leaned on names, places and dates.
  • Memorizing for a test means most of it is forgotten.
  • Homeschooling gives you the chance to teach history differently.
